About the author
Charlotte Coates is the Founding Clinical Lead at Legion Health, where she oversees clinical quality initiatives and the development of Legion’s network of psychiatric nurse practitioners. As a board-certified PMHNP with multi-state licensure, she brings extensive experience in direct psychiatric care, clinician supervision, and telehealth practice. In addition to guiding clinical protocols at Legion, she continues to provide patient care to ensure the highest standards of practice.
Before joining Legion Health, Charlotte provided psychiatric care in high-volume settings – including serving patients at the Service Program for Older People (SPOP) and operating her own private practice, Charlotte Coates, NP in Psychiatry, PLLC. She also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Columbia University School of Nursing, helping train future psychiatric NPs. Her clinical background spans geriatric psychiatry, community mental health, and academic mentorship, giving her a well-rounded perspective on patient care and provider training.
Clinical Focus Areas: Adult ADHD, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, trauma and PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), insomnia, and substance use disorders – with particular expertise in evidence-based medication management and telepsychiatry. (Her graduate work at NYU emphasized treatment of substance use disorders, further enriching her practice.)
